About Us

The Coastal Resources Division of GA DNR is located on the coast in Brunswick, Georgia.

The Coastal Resources Division was formed in 1978 with the consolidation of the DNR Game and Fish Division's Marine Fisheries Section and the Coastal Marshlands Protection Agency.

Responsible for:

  • Managing Georgia's coastal marshlands and sand sharing system under the authority of the Coastal Marshlands Protection Act and the Shore Protection Act
  • Administering Georgia's Coastal Management Program
  • Managing Georgia's saltwater recreational and commercial fisheries (multiple species of finfish, shrimp, blue crab, and shellfish)

Mission:

To balance coastal development and protection of the coast's natural assets, socio-cultural heritage, and recreational resources for the benefit of present and future generations.

Vision:

To be an agency of knowledgeable and compassionate professionals who are trusted, respected, and empowered to help the public be stewards of Georgia’s natural assets and socio-cultural heritage.
