Public Access
The Georgia coast offers a wide variety of publically available access sites from numerous boating launches to historic ruins on Sapelo Island. The Public Access Guidebook was completed by the University of Georgia Marine Extension utilizing NOAA funds through the State Coastal Management Program to provide an easy reference guidebook to direct locals and tourists alike to some of the coast’s inspiring viewsheds, cultural, and historic locations.
More information on saltwater fishing access locations can be found here.
The Georgia Coastal Management Program supports local government’s public access enhancement through Coastal Incentive Grants (click to see previously awarded grants), Coastal and Estuarine Land Conservation Program grants (click to see previously awarded grants), and technical assistance. Our Coastal Resource Specialist can assist your community with master planning, site identification, site design, and potential funding mechanisms. The Program believes that the best way to protect our resources is get out and see what they are all about.
Please also visit Georgia Department of Natural Resources homepage for information about your state owned lands such as State Parks, Historic Sites, Wildlife Management Areas, and Public Fishing Areas. The coast is also home to federally managed areas such as Cumberland Island National Seashore, Fort Frederica, Fort, Pulaski, the Okeefenokee swamp, Blackbeard Island, Harris Neck and Savannah National Wildlife Refuges, and Fort Stewart. There are also numerous county and city parks that are well worth your visit.
